Tonight we went with our neighbor Dave and his girls to the VA hospital to deliver valentines to the vets. As you drive in, there is this stone monument that is very powerful. We talked to the kids about soldiers and what they might see at the hospital. The kids visited with vets in the Extended Care Unit and then one in the ICU. The kids gave hugs, shook hands and said thanks. Every single man and woman expressed gratitude and surprise(!) that we were there. I suppose when you hear about the morons in Berkeley and other moronic "progressives", people being grateful to you might be surprising. There is really nothing we can do to honor their sacrifice, but we think saying "thank you" and "we remember" are small ways to show our respect.
I am going to get preachy now. You can do many small things to show you are grateful. If you see a vet, go up and say "thank you"...have your kids say it, too. Go to a flag raising. Go to the Veteran's Cemetery. And never forget.

What a great idea. It's too late today for our family but I will have to remember for the next holiday. What a good mom you are and a good example to the rest of us. Love the idea. Thanks.
